AMA Outdoor Motocross Series Gets Underway
San Bernadino, CA - May 25, 2008
The AMA Outdoor Motocross Series got the twelve race championship underway at Glen Helen MX Park over the Memorial weekend. Division 7/Star Racing/NCY/Yamaha attended with a huge presence, fielding our four man team comprised of #35 BrocTickle, #52 Matt Lemoine, #82 Jake Moss, and #99 Wil Hahn. Sunday’s timed qualifying started out promising with our ultra fast YZ 250f’s powering each rider to a fast lap time, the fastest being Moss obtaining 8th gate pick for the opening moto.
Moto one set out for 30 min. +2 laps, seeing Lemoine starting strong in 6th, Hahn 24th, and both Tickle/Moss being claimed by crashes which saw them cross the first lap mark in 33rd, and 35th. No doubt the highlight of this moto would be Lemoine who hasn’t always shined outdoors. That all changed as the Texan held 6th position throughout the entire race, only losing one spot to the Lites reigning title holder. Even then though, Lemoine rallied hard right to the end and picked back up 6th spot marking his career best finish in national competition. Also worth noting, Tickle made a comeback all the way to 21st, narrowly missing the next position by a wheel at the checkers. Following just behind, you found Moss sitting 22nd, and Hahn 23rd.
When moto two went into action, it could be seen that good things were ahead when all four Division 7 riders acquired decent starts. Holding 8th early on was Moss, Lemoine sat 13th for one lap before going over the bars on a steep downhill, only to remount 18th, Tickle was having better time in 15th, and Hahn was 20th. However, rapidly changes occurred for the better as Tickle and Lemoine climbed the charts, joining Moss in the top ten. Riding wheel to wheel in 8th, 9th,10th, the three teammates battled for bragging rights till the bitter end. As the checkers flew Tickle rose to 8th, Lemoine took 9th, beating out Moss who settled for 10th. Quietly lurking was Hahn, who rode aggressively forward into 14th making good on the day.
